A man accused of stabbing another man to death in Lethabong on New Year’s Day was released on bail.
Thabo Montshosi, 45 was granted R4000 bail on January 9 and the case against him was postponed to March for further investigation.
Montshosi allegedly stabbed a 38-year-old man to death with a sharp object following a fight at a pub.
North West police said it was alleged that patrons were at a tavern in Lethabong, when some individuals who were also inside the tavern, started igniting fireworks.
“Those who were against this confronted them, which led to a fight that started inside the tavern and then moved outside. During the commotion, a 38-year-old victim was stabbed with a sharp object and died instantly.” North West police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sam Tselanyane said at the time.
A group that was with the deceased allegedly attacked Montshosi, who managed to flee the scene on foot.
“The group then identified the suspect’s vehicle that was parked nearby, and set it alight.
Montshosi after hearing that his blue mini cooper was torched and fearing to return to the tavern, he went to the police station to seek help. After being identified as a murder suspect, he was immediately arrested and detained.
