The North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR), in partnership with the North West Sports Confederation (NWSC), is thrilled to officially announce the finalists for the landmark 10th edition of the North West Sports Awards (NWSA).
The prestigious #NWSA10Edition ceremony will take place on Saturday, 1st August, at the iconic Sun City Superbowl. Celebrating a decade of excellence in the province’s athletic and sporting community. Significantly the awards will be marking the beginning of women’s month and trust that our sports women will also be part of the winners.
This year’s milestone event features 18 districts categories, honoring exceptional performances, leadership, and achievements by individuals, teams, and administrators across the North West sporting landscape during the review period of 1st January to 30th June 2026. Highlights of the night will include the coveted Sport Star of the Year award and the MEC’s Special Awards. Reflecting on the significance of this year’s ceremony, Departmental Spokesperson Mr. Shuping Sebolecwe highlighted the power of sports in nation-building: “The 10th edition of the North West Sports Awards takes place at a significant moment in South Africa’s history. We celebrate the pivotal role sport continues to play in uniting our diverse people and lifting our nation’s pride, alongside 30 years of the country’s constitution. With the completion of the Fifa World Cup 2026, we have seen how sport have the power to united people across all colour line”.
PUBLIC VOTING OPEN: SPORT STAR OF THE YEAR The winner of the coveted Sport Star of the Year category will be decided directly by the public. The five distinguished finalists competing for the title are: Kagiso Pholoholo, Aphelele Sibisi, Bradley Nkoana, Andrea Steynberg and Asanda Simelane.
The Department encourages members of the public and sports enthusiasts to support their favourite athletes by placing their votes via WhatsApp.
