HOPE and dignity were restored at Mperebere and Mphuphuthe Primary School when each school was gifted with eight school shoes and four school bags by LESUMA Taxi Association.

This initiative is part of the association’s development programme, which aims to give back to the community for their continued support.

At the joyful handover ceremony, the children’s faces lit up as they received their new shoes and bags, a tangible reminder that they matter and deserve the best.

The handover 5ook place on Thursday, 05 June.

Chairperson of SBST Care and Support at Mperebere Primary School Thulisile Tshabalala said this donation represents a crucial step towards empowering learners to enhance their academic performance.

“We truly hope this initiative will make a meaningful impact,” she said.
“For many of these learners, it is the first time they will be able to walk to school comfortably, and that makes a huge difference to their confidence and sense of belonging,” said Thulisile.

“Sometimes learners get teased for not having proper shoes, and at times, they avoid attending school because of worn-out footwear. This donation will literally take the kids off the streets and bring them into the classroom.” She emphasised their gratitude for the donation and encouraged other stakeholders to assist where possible

Deputy principal of Mphuphuthe Primary School Onica Sekgopi expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting how it would impact the learners’s morale and attendance.

“We really appreciate the contribution from the donors, their kindness will go a long way,” Sekgopi said.

Mbongiseni Mthombeni,Lesuma Taxi Association Secretary said that their committed in supporting under-resourced schools.
“This donation is more than just a pair of shoes, it is an investment in the confidence, self-worth, and future of our learners. It allows them to step into their education with dignity and a renewed sense of purpose,” he said.
“Shoes are more than just protection for the feet; they are a symbol of dignity and equality, enabling children to walk with pride.”

He said the association also assist by providing Taxi during funerals in the community to transport mourners to and from the cemetery. He encouraged residents to report at their office when there is a funeral.
