The murder case of Rustenburg businessman Ben Gumbi is set to continue when the third accused, Zimele Mntuyazi Nkwanyana, stands trial from 12 to 23 October 2026.
Gumbi was shot and killed outside a coffee shop in the Rustenburg CBD on 23 August 2023.
He had stepped outside to take a phone call when two men approached and opened fire.Nkwanyana was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal, October 2025.
His arrest came shortly after his alleged accomplices, Sibongiseni Ngubane and Thabani Gwala, were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for Gumbi’s murder, with an additional 15 years each for possession of an unlicensed firearm, to run concurrently.
The earlier investigation was supported by surveillance footage and fingerprint evidence recovered from a vehicle allegedly used in the murder.The trial is expected to appear at the North-West High Court sitting in Mogwase.
