KOKO Francinah Matlhoko has been waiting for an RDP house for years now and is losing hope that she will ever live in it.
Koko who is from Mabeskraal village outside Rustenburg turned 107 on Wednesday, 05 June.
She lives with her 62-year-old daughter. Their shack is badly built and precarious. It is made from rotten wood. It is cold and the roof leaks when it rains.
Fransina as a centenarian and her sight is affected. She walks with the aid of crutches.
Koko applied for an RDP house twice since 2011 but never received any feedback.
Her shack is small and uncomfortable for her to move freely. The family appeals for a decent and comfortable home for granny.
Granddaughter, Semakaleng Kgosimang says she has been sent from pillar to post trying to get answers about why she never qualified for the house. Semakaleng said they wish to honour their granny but can’t afford to since they are unemployed.
Koko said she will continue to vote for the ANC government even if they have failed to give her a house. She emphasised that she is voting because of formal president Nelson Mandela who is her peer.
“I have lost hope that the government will come through for me and my family,” she said.she said she wishes to enjoy living in a well built house before she dies.
As part of commemorating Mandela Day in July. her family would like to honour her life. They seek assistance in celebrating her life by means of party. Any donations that can unable them to achieve their dream.
Moses Kotane Local Municipality Head of communication & media unit Berlina Lekgethwane said the municipality can state that allocation of RDP houses, budget comes from the provincial Department of human settlement.
She said the municipality submit all lists of qualified beneficiaries.
Department of Human Settlements Spokeswoman Dineo Lelokwane said the would investigate the matter assess her living conditions and give formal feedback. She said they have directed the matter to the relevant authorities and check on our housing records koko’s status.
“An update will be given following a proper investigation,” said Lelokwane.
