
TWO men accused of shooting Ben Gumbi to death in 2023 made their appearance for pre-trial at the North West High Court sitting in Mogwase on 25-27 February.

Five witnesses including police officers, eye witnesses, photographer from the identity parade and the late Ben Gumbi’s wife Busisiwe Gumbi took the stand.
The court heard that Busisiwe was in the car when the incident happened.The couple had just dropped their daughter at school as they normally get coffee before going to the office. She testified that she clearly saw accused one and successfully identified him during the identity parade.
The police officer who arrested accused two emphasized that the accused was not shocked but was however very cooperative during the arrest.He also testified that the accused said he will tell him everything he knows about the incident as he had already heard that the police are looking for him.
The pre-trial will resume on 23-27 June 2025.
Ben Gumbi was gunned down by two males outside a restaurant in the Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD) on 23 August 2023.The suspects then fled the scene with a blue Volkswagen Polo car which was found a few minutes after the incident, abandoned at the Corner of Helen Joseph and Lourie Streets.
The incident was caught on CCTV, and the footage had been doing rounds on social media platforms a few minutes later. Following a police investigation, two of the suspects were arrested. While two has been reported dead after being shot Eswatini December 2023.
