
TWO victims were charged R10000 to secure employment at one of the local mines by an alleged ward councillor in Paardekraal outside Rustenburg.
A man from Rustenburg regret paying for a job. This is after he has been waiting for over a year for secure employment after paying R5000. The man who wanted to remain anonymous paid for R5000 to the alleged councillor in Paardekraal outside Rustenburg.
Recently, with the help of Pananeng Crime fighters the man, who is the alleged councillor paid back the money.
The intervation from Pananeng Crime fighters had stemmed from a complaint received by two victims, alleging that an individual was soliciting money to secure jobs. It is alleged that the conman promised the victims employment as miners at one of the local mines in exchange for a fee of R10000.
The victims negotiated to pay half of the amount. It was agreed that the remaining balance will be paid off after securing the job.
When asked about being a councillor the man told North-West Unlocked that he was indeed not a councillor, however he is campaigning for the position.
He said he was only helping people who in return have to thank him.“It’s unfortunate that with this case there was a delay, but I do help people and have many who I have assisted,” he said.He said he can’t speak much about the matter as he is afraid of getting into trouble. “I have worked so much to get here and don’t want to ruin things for myself by revealing too much.”
The victims said he was directed to the man by someone he knew.“I was told this man will help me get a job as had been struggling to get one.”
“In March 2024 I paid the deposit and to this day, am still waiting. My biggest concern is that the man won’t even communicate with you or give you updates. I was the one who had to check on him all the time.”
He said he learned his lesson and encouraged others not to fall for such scams.
Pananeng Crime fighters secretary Mogotsi Kgosimang confirmed that the man paid back R9000 for the two victims.
