The family of the late Rethabile Harriet Mosime says their lives have been turned upside down following her brutal killing. Martin Modikoe, who was arrested in connection with Mosime’s death, appeared before court on Monday, 22 June. The matter was postponed to 1 July 2026 for a formal bail application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mosime was stabbed multiple times inTlhabane on Thursday 18 June, leaving her family shattered and struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.The deceased’s Father Koos Mosime described the past few days as the most painful period of their lives. He said they are battling emotional trauma, sleepless nights, and the overwhelming burden of preparing for a funeral while trying to process the loss of a loved one whose life was cut short in a violent manner.”We are heartbroken. Nothing could have prepared us for this. Every day feels like a nightmare that we cannot wake up from,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family says they are now appealing to community members, local businesses, and Good Samaritans for assistance as they prepare to lay Mosime to rest. They have called for support with funeral arrangements and other related expenses during this difficult time.While preparing for the funeral, the vehicle that transported Rethabile’s belongings burn down, adding more tragedy to the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community members have also expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as yet another painful reminder of the scourge of gender-based violence that continues to claim the lives of women across the country.Residents who gathered outside court said enough is enough, calling for stronger interventions to protect women and girls from abuse and violence. Some carried messages demanding justice for Mosime and urging authorities to ensure that perpetrators of violence against women face the full might of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community leaders have further called on residents to speak out against abuse, report warning signs of violence, and support victims before situations escalate into tragedy.As the case proceeds through the justice system, the Mosime family remains focused on giving their loved one a dignified farewell over the weekend while seeking answers and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The matter will return to court on 1 July 2026 for the accused’s bail application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
