THE North West Province celebrates the remarkable career of Principal Lesiba Pila, a dedicated educator who has devoted 44 years of his life to the Department of Education in North West, with an impressive 40 years as a principal. As he retires at the age of 65, the Department and province at large honor his tireless efforts and contributions to shaping the minds of future generations.
Currently leading Rutanang Primary Enrichment Centre in Tlhabane, Rustenburg Principal Pila is known for his unwavering commitment to quality education. A proud son of Mokopane in Limpopo.He completed his teaching qualification in 1981 and began his teaching journey in 1982 at Kgosithebe Primary School in Vryburg.
His exceptional work ethic and passion for education earned him a promotion to principal in 1985, a position he held for four years. Under his leadership, he has produced legends in various fields, including professionals in radio and football. His achievements have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Provincial Teachers Award in 2003 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, where he was awarded first position provincially.
Principal Pila’s impact extends beyond the classroom. He has collaborated with local private companies and mines to develop schools in Rustenburg, renovating infrastructure and improving resources.
He has been recognised and acknowledged by SADU, the union of teachers in South Africa, and has represented South Africa in Paris, sharing his expertise on work ethics and leadership with teachers and principals.
In his remarks, Principal Pila expressed gratitude to his family, particularly his wife and kids, his community, village, the Department of Northwest Education, and his 95-year-old mother. His humility, leadership skills, and dedication to education have made a lasting impact, putting Northwest Education on the map.
As he embarks on a well-deserved retirement, we thank Principal Lesiba Pila for his service and commitment to education. His contributions will forever be etched in the hearts of those he has touched.
