THE Rustenburg Magistrates court has on Thursday, 28 August rejected the bail application of Walter Tshehla, accused of murdering Onalenna Selebogo.
The mother of the deceased, Prudence Selebogo expressed mixed emotions about the case, acknowledging that nothing can bring her daughter back. However, she’s finding some solace in the fact that Walter Tshehla, the accused, has been denied bail by the Rustenburg Magistrates Court. She said the decision brings her a sense of justice and reassurance that the accused won’t interfere with the investigation or pose a risk to society.
Kgomotso Mokgatlhe from Peeletso Sechabeng development expressed happiness and relief that the accused, Walter Tshehla, was denied bail. This decision gives them hope that justice will be served and that the legal process will unfold without interference or further harm.
“The denial of bail can be a significant step in the legal process, especially in serious cases like murder. It suggests that the court takes the allegations seriously and is taking steps to ensure public safety and the integrity of the investigation.”
Onalenna Selebogo, was a 21-year-old third-year Education student at North-West University’s Mahikeng Campus who was tragically stabbed to death in a flat in central Rustenburg on August 3, 2025. Her body was found wrapped in bed sheets with multiple stab wounds to the neck. The suspect, Walter Tshehlo, her boyfriend, fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities.
Onalenna was remembered as a bright and determined young woman who was deeply committed to her studies, with a passion for teaching and making a difference in her community.
The case was postponed to 30 October for further investigations.
