
FAMILY and friends came together to bid a final farewell to a vibrant young woman whose life was brutally cut short. The funeral service was a poignant tribute to her memory, with friends and family gathering to pay their respects and offer support to her grieving loved ones.
The 21-year-old’s life was tragically ended by her boyfriend. As the mourners gathered to say goodbye, the pain and sorrow were palpable.The service was a testament to the impact she had on those around her, with friends and family sharing heartfelt tributes and memories of her life.
Onalenna’s friend, Bonolo Monyeki said Ona was more than just a friend to her. “Onalenna was a kind soul who lit up the room. She had a passion for learning, and her love for academics was inspiring. She was a young girl with big dreams and an even bigger heart.”“Onalenna may be gone, but her memory will live on in our hearts.”

Mme Sefora, former teacher at Keledi High School, the same school Ona was doing her teaching practical had the privilege of watching Onalenna grow and flourish. “She was a diligent student, always eager to learn, and her passion for education was evident in everything she did,” she said. “As she pursued her studies in education, Onalenna returned to our school for her teaching practical, and it was a joy to see her thrive in the classroom. She was a respectful and diligent young woman, and I had high hopes for her future.”
“As a mother myself, I couldn’t help but see Onalenna as a daughter, and I had looked forward to seeing more of her life’s journey. Her potential was undeniable, and her future was bright.”“To the youth, I want to take a moment to speak directly to you. Onalenna’s tragic fate is a stark reminder of the dangers of abusive relationships. I urge you to seek help, speak out, and prioritize your safety above all else.”
Kgopotso Segobela, a representative from North-West university said they are saddened her the tragic fate of Onalenna. “As an institution, we’re committed to supporting initiatives that promote the safety and well-being of our students.
Onalenna’s untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address gender-based violence and other social ills that affect our community.”“To Onalenna’s family and friends, we offer our deepest condolences. May you find strength in the love and support that surrounds you.”

A touching tribute from Onalenna’s mother was read. She said she will remember the dreams they shared, the laughter they enjoyed, and the milestones they looked forward to celebrating together. “I was eagerly anticipating her graduation, and all the moments in between. I would scream with joy when she graduated, and she would scream back, knowing that her mother was proud of her accomplishments.”
“But now, I’m left with a pain that cannot be put into words. I’m a mother who will never get to see her child graduate, get married, or live out her dreams. I’m a mother who will never get to share in the joys of her child’s successes. I am a mother to a murdered child.”
