
KOKO Elizabeth Setshedi was the oldest citizen in the the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality. She died on 8 May in her peaceful sleep in Jubilee Hospital in Hammanskraal.
Heartfelt condolences continue to pour for the grandmother of the nation. Her life will be celebrated on 17 May in Slagboom village where she will be buried.

Dikeledi Nthangeni the Executive Mayor of Bojanala District Municipality extends her deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Setshedi.She said reaching the remarkable milestone of 120 years is a testament to a life filled with resilience, wisdom and grace. “Our grandmother contributed to a century of change and progress, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and inspiration that will forever remain in our hearts.”Nthangeni said as they mourn her passing, they also celebrate a life well lived. A life that touched generations.
“May her memory be a blessing and may her family find comfort in the great legacy she leaves behind.”
MMC for Finance at Bojanala Platinum District Municipality Winnie Sono described koko as a very funny woman. She was full of life and could speak of her upbringing. “I met koko when she was 112 and I was inspired. At over 100 years, she could still walk, talk loudly using actions to emphasises her story.
Koko loved sewing using plastics to make mats. I have one of those plastic mats which I will cherish as a gift from koko,” she said.
When asked about living these long, Koko could say she eats healthy, merogo and she fears God. Koko also loved speaking about her late husband and their happy memories.
Winnie said being in her presence felt goldy and she will be always be remembered.

Former Bojanala Platinum District Municipality Mayor, Matlakala Nondzaba when she met koko she pleaded for an RDP that the government had promised her Nondzaba took it upon herself to start a campaign to raise funds for the house.”We ensured that we fulfil our promise as koko mentioned that she will die peaceful if she received her new house,” said Nondzaba.
Former Mayor also threw a birthday party for koko to celebrate her while she was still alive.It’s sad that koko died without meeting the President. However, one of her wishes was fulfilled, which is receiving a house.
Setshedi worked as a domestic worker. She was born on 16 July 1903 in a village called DE Bosveld then moved to Polompo, later to Tshwane and relocated to Slagboom village where she lived her whole life.The deceded was married to the late Nkeu Phineus Setshedi and they were blessed with 12 children, 58 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren and 43 great great grandchildren.She leaves behind four children
koko will be laid to rest at Slagboom cemetery on Saturday, 17 May. The service is expected to start at 7am.
