
ANC Bojanala regional secretary Raymond Moraile and two others appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with a case of extortion amounting to R300 000.
Moraile, 40, Menzi Mngadi, 42, who is a driver and Peter Legong, a ward councillor in Madibeng local municipality were arrested at a restaurant east of Pretoria on Thursday, after they allegedly solicited R300 000 from a businessman in exchange of a tender.
One of the three allegedly contacted the businessman inquiring if he needed assistance to secure the tender advertised by the Madibeng local municipality in Brits, North West province.
A meeting was arranged between the businessman and the three. At the meeting they demanded R300 000 from the businessman so that he could be awarded the tender the municipality advertised in November.
The businessman reported the matter to the Hawks, an entrapment was set up and the three were arrested.
Their case was postponed to Monday (15 December 2025)
