SUN City welcomed hundreds of runners, families, and volunteers for the extraordinary global success of parkrun on Saturday, 03 May. Enthusiastic runners joined the fun race creating a memorable experience for all involved.
The course will be run entirely on permanent tarred golf cart paths at the Gary Player Golf Course, deservedly ranked as one of the most prestigious golf courses on the African continent. Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. The 5km event takes place every Saturday morning. The run is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome.Runners or walkers can take part in the 5km events on Saturday mornings, while 2km junior events take place on Sunday mornings.
Parkrun is a platform for everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from. An opportunity for people to be active together, outdoors, and take part however they like.
Kutlwano Phalatse from Ledig Village who participated said it was fun. “We had a great time,” she said. “There are many physical and emotional benefits to participating in a fun run – physical health, mental health, fitness.
” Kutlwano encouraged everyone to join. She also intend on participating frequently.”
Joyce Molutsi from Tweelagte who came alone said she made new friends. “It’s non-competitive. You can run it as hard as you like. You can be as competitive as you like but you’re not really competing with other people.”You’re competing against yourself, and as a result, there’s this pressure is taken away and it’s just fun. I’ve made so many friends through Parkrun.”
Another participant said parkrun is all about the fun, so you don’t have to worry about winning or losing or if you never ran before or even if you’re fit enough, a fun run was created so people can have fun. “They are not competing against each other, so they can just enjoy the run, meet new people, create cherished family memories.”
