The North West Department of Human Settlements has extended the Title Deeds Restoration Programme to Boitumelong Township in Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality, where 10 elderly beneficiaries received title deeds, providing them with formal proof of ownership and security of tenure for their homes.
MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi, handed over a further 10 houses to beneficiaries in Boitumelong as part of the provincial government’s commitment to accelerating housing delivery, addressing housing backlogs and ensuring that completed houses are allocated to qualifying beneficiaries.
The project is part of the 500 unit housing project being implemented to address the housing needs of communities in Lekwa-Teemane, with the project expected to be completed by the end of next month.
MEC Molapisi said that service delivery is not only about constructing houses, but also about changing lives and giving people the dignity and security they deserve. “When we hand over a house, we are handing over more than a structure; we are providing a safe place to call home. Our focus is to ensure that housing delivery translates into real improvements in the lives of our people. As a department, we are working to accelerate the completion of projects, address blockages and ensure that qualifying beneficiaries receive quality houses within reasonable timeframes’’, said MEC Molapisi.
He also reiterated the importance of strengthening oversight of human settlements projects to ensure that government resources deliver quality housing and tangible benefits to communities. He said the department will continue to prioritise interventions that address the needs of vulnerable households while accelerating delivery and strengthening accountability.
The department remains committed to working with municipalities and other stakeholders to improve project implementation, restore title deeds to rightful beneficiaries and deliver sustainable human settlements across the province.
