Female learners took centre stage at Boitekong Secondary School 2 after emerging among the top-performing learners recognised for academic excellence in the Science and Commerce streams.
The learners were honoured during an award ceremony held on Friday, 28 August aimed at recognising academic achievement while motivating learners to remain committed to their studies.
The initiative was supported by MMC Thabang Rampou who serves under the Rustenburg Local Municipality.
The top three-performing learners were each awarded laptops, while learners who finished in fourth and fifth positions received vouchers in recognition of their academic performance.All five of the recognised learners are female, making the achievement particularly significant as South Africa observes Women’s Month.
The awards highlighted the growing importance of creating opportunities that encourage young women to excel in education and pursue their academic ambitions.
The ceremony emphasised the importance of education and the need to motivate young people through initiatives that recognise their efforts and achievements.The ceremony also served as an encouragement to other learners at the school to work harder and strive for academic excellence.The initiative reflects the role that community and political leadership can play in supporting educational development and recognising learners who demonstrate commitment and strong academic performance.
The recipients were congratulated for their achievements and encouraged to continue working hard and inspiring their peers.The message of the day was summed up by the Setswana saying, “Ngwana sejo wa tlhakanelwa,” emphasising the collective responsibility of a community in supporting and nurturing its children.
