North West premier Lazarus Mokgosi has changed the executive council, firing the member of the executive council (MEC) responsible for education Viola Motsumi.This caught many by surprise, Madoda Sambatha was expected to be the MEC to be shown the door on the basis that he was a member of the SA Communist Party, following the removal of Smuts Matshe as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) and another SACP member Maleho Gaonakala who was removed as member of the mayoral committee in Rustenburg, he is now an ordinary councillor.The SACP resolved to contest the election independently.
Although there is no resolution, SACP members who were elected on the ANC tickets are reportedly removed on positions purely for not declaring whether they would campaign for the ANC amid the SACP decision to contest the election independently.Dr Desbo Mohono replaced Viola as Education MEC.
Wessels Morweng swapped department with Tsotso Tlhapi.Morweng moved to the department of arts, culture, sports and recreation.Tlhapi moved to the department of community safety and transport management.Sambatha remains MEC for agriculture and rural development, Gaoage Molapisi remains at cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs portfolio.
Bitsa Lenkopane remains MEC for economic development, environment and tourism, while Kenetswe Mosenogi continues as MEC for Finance.Sello Lehari remains MEC for health, Elizabeth Mokua retains the public works and roads portfolio and Susanna Dantjie remains MEC for social development
